Taxonomy
Megalytoceras was named by Buckman (1905) [Sepkoski's age data: J Toar-u J Bajo]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Megalytoceratinae.

It was assigned to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); to Phylloceratinae by Pallini et al. (2004); and to Megalytoceratinae by Hoffmann (2010), Galácz and Kassai (2012), Whicher et al. (2023).
