Rostranteris charymdarensis was named by Smirnova and Grunt (2002). Its type specimen is PIN 4104/595, a shell (Articulated shell), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Charymdara-Zidadara interfluve, Location 1174, Darvaz, which is in a Kungurian marine horizon in the Safetdaron Formation of Tajikistan.
