Taxonomy
Hoplitoides nigeriensis was named by Woods (1911) [DISTRIBUTION: Turonian; Europe, Western Africa.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Gongila (Falconer collection), which is in a Turonian carbonate limestone in Nigeria.
It was recombined as Bauchioceras nigeriensis by Reyment (1954); it was recombined as Pseudotissotia (Bauchioceras) nigeriensis by Reyment (1955), Barber (1957); it was recombined as Bauchioceras nigeriense by Reyment (1979); it was recombined as Thomasites nigeriensis by Meister et al. (1992), Meister et al. (1994); it was recombined as Pseudotissotia nigeriensis by Chancellor (1982), Meister (1989), Meister et al. (2003), Gale et al. (2005), Zaoui et al. (2024).
