Taxonomy
Muriceras obscurum was named by Flower (1964). Its type specimen is RHF 855, a shell, and it is a cast. Its type locality is Cooks Range (1st piloceroid zone), which is in a Demingian shallow subtidal lime mudstone in the Victorio Formation of New Mexico.
