Taxonomy
Cibolaites was named by Cobban and Hook (1983) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno-u]. Its type is Cibolaites molenaari.

It was assigned to Barroisiceratinae by Cobban and Hook (1983); to Collignoniceratidae by Meister et al. (1992); to Collignoniceratinae by Kennedy et al. (2001); and to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
