Taxonomy
Persephonaster arduennensis was named by Breton (1997). Its type specimen is Holotype MHNH 8983 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Asteroidea, Lumachelle à Acuminata, Ardennes, which is in a Bajocian shoreface grainstone in the Lumachelle à Ostrea acuminata Formation of France.

G. Breton 1997Disk small. Short slender arms regularly attenuated. Interbrachial arc angular. R/r ratio higher than five. Thirty-five pairs of marginal per half-arc. No fasciole between marginal plates. Two pairs of interradial marginals differentiated. Marginals nearly equal in size. Inferomarginals with ornament of several acicular spines inserted on a distal and oblique row of tubercles. Ventrolateral area very reduced, a discontinuous row of vestigial actinolateral plates can reach the third of the arm length. Adambulacrals with a large horseshoe-shaped subambulacral tubercle. Furrow margin of the adambulacrals with a pectinate group of four to six cylindrical spines. Adambulacrals with a well-developed adradial keel. Articulation of the adambulacrals and ambulacrals symmetrical. Ambulacral weakly overlapping. Orals small.
