Adrianites fredericksi was named by Emel'yantsev (1929). It is the type species of Neocrimites.
It was recombined as Neocrimites fredericksi by Ruzhentsev (1940), Ruzhentsev (1956), Armstrong et al. (1967), Leonova (2002), Leonova and Boiko (2015).
