Brazilosaurus was named by Shikama and Ozaki (1966). It is not extant. Its type is Brazilosaurus sanpauloensis.
It was assigned to Mesosauridae by Oelofsen and Araujo (1987), Rossmann (2000), Sedor and Ferigolo (2001), Karl et al. (2007).
