It was assigned to Ziphosuchia by Turner and Sertich (2010), Sertich and O'Connor (2014); to Sphagesauridae by Marinho and Carvalho (2009), Iori and Carvalho (2011), Iori et al. (2013), Pol et al. (2014), Martinelli et al. (2018); to Sphagesaurinae by Pinheiro et al. (2021); and to Sphagesauridae by Ruiz et al. (2021).
