Taxonomy
Cephalaspis was named by Agassiz (1835). It is the type genus of Cephalaspidae.
It was assigned to Placoganoidei by Owen (1859); to Cephalaspidae by Huxley (1861), Woodward (1891), Hay (1902), Bryant (1933), Gardiner (1966); to Vertebrata by Dumbrava and Blieck (2005); and to Cornuata by Sansom (2009).
