Taxonomy
Hoplites was named as a genus. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Hoplitidae, Hoplitaceaea, Hoplitinae.

It was reranked as Neoptychites (Hoplites) by van Koenen (1897).

It was assigned to Neoptychites by van Koenen (1897); to Ammonoidea by Stanton (1895), Sepkoski (2002); and to Hoplitinae by Nagy (1970), Wright et al. (1996), Tajika et al. (2018).
