Hourcquia was named by Collignon (1965) [Sepkoski's age data: K Turo-u K Coni-l]. Its type is Hourcquia mirabilis.

It was assigned to Hourcquiinae by Wright et al. (1996) and Kawabe and Shigeta (2001); and to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
