Taxonomy

Hypacanthoplites was named by Spath (1923) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti-u K Albi-l].

It was reranked as Acanthoplites (Hypacanthoplites) by Collignon (1962).

It was assigned to Acanthoplites by Collignon (1962); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); to Parahoplitidae by Kennedy et al. (1980), Kennedy et al. (1981), Lehmann et al. (2013) and Lehmann et al. (2016); to Acanthoplitinae by Robert and Bulot (2005), Robert et al. (2018) and Ovando-Figueroa et al. (2018); and to Acanthohoplitinae by Szives (2007), Lehmann et al. (2019), Matsukawa (2021) and Latil and Jaillard (2023).
