Taxonomy

Knemiceras was named by Böhm (1898) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti-u K Albi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is the type genus of Knemiceratidae.

It was assigned to Engonoceratidae by Renz (1982), Kennedy and Simmons (1991), Wright et al. (1996), Geyer et al. (1997); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); to Knemiceratinae by El Qot (2018); and to Knemiceratidae by Bulot (2010), Latil and Jaillard (2023).
