Taxonomy
Macroscaphites was named by Meek (1876) [Sepkoski's age data: K Barr K Turo Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is the type genus of Macroscaphitidae.

It was assigned to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Macroscaphitidae by Renz (1982), Landra et al. (2000), Klein et al. (2007), Kennedy et al. (2009).
