Taxonomy
Spriggina ovata was named by Glaessner and Wade (1966). Its type specimen is P13754 and is an impression. Its type locality is Ediacara Range, which is in an Ediacaran open shallow subtidal sandstone in the Rawnsley Quartzite Formation of Australia.
It was synonymized subjectively with Marywadea ovata by Fedonkin et al. (2007).
