Ernietta plateauensis was named by Pflug (1966). Its type specimen is GSN 283 (F429-H) (Pflug No 277) and is an impression. It is the type species of Ernietta.

D. Elliott et al. 2016Sac-shaped fossil with body wall consisting of two sheet-like layers of parallel tubular elements. Tubular elements meeting with offset symmetry at a suture located along the short-axis of the fossil. An indented equatorial seam lying perpendicular to the tubular elements commonly divides specimens into two unequal parts.
