Taxonomy
Oppelia was named as a genus. It is not extant. Its type is Ammonites subradiatus. It is the type genus of Oppeliidae.

It was reranked as Ammonites (Oppelia) by Favre (1877).

It was assigned to Ammonites by Favre (1877); to Oppeliinae by Arkell et al. (1957); to Oppeliidae by Sandoval and Westermann (1986) and Besnosov and Mitta (1993); and to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
