Oxybeloceras was named by Hyatt (1900) [Sepkoski's age data: K Camp-u].

It was reranked as Solenoceras (Oxybeloceras) by Morozumi (1985).

It was assigned to Solenoceras by Morozumi (1985); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Polyptychoceratinae by Kennedy and Cobban (1994), Kennedy et al. (2000) and Ifrim et al. (2015).
