Ventogyrus chistyakovi was named by Ivantsov and Grazhdankin (1997). Its type specimen is PIN 4564/25 and is an impression. Its type locality is middle course of the Onega River, which is in an Ediacaran submarine fan sandstone/siltstone in the Verkhovka Formation of the Russian Federation.
