Parahoplites was named by Anthula (1899) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti-l K Apti-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. Its type is Parahoplites melchioris.

It was reranked as Acanthoceras (Parahoplites) by Kilian (1902).

It was assigned to Acanthoceras by Kilian (1902); to Parahoplitidae by Benavides-Caceres (1956); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Parahoplitinae by Stoyanow (1949), Perez et al. (1990), Szives (2007), Lehmann et al. (2019).
