Litoria was named by Tschudi (1838). It is extant. Its type is Litoria tylerantiqua.

It was assigned to Hylidae by Tyler (1977), Tyler (1981), Worthy (1997); to Pelodryadinae by Sanchiz (1998); and to Pelodryadidae by Farman et al. (2025).
