Pedioceras was named by Gerhardt (1897) [Sepkoski's age data: K Barr K Apti].

It was reranked as Acanthoceras (Pedioceras) by Solger (1904); it was synonymized subjectively with Pseudocrioceras by Wright (1952).

It was assigned to Acanthoceras by Solger (1904); to Crioceratinae by Cantu-Chapa (1962); to Ancyloceratidae by Kakabadze and Hoedemaeker (1997); and to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
