Taxonomy
Procheloniceras was named by Spath (1923) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti-l]. Its type is Ammonites stobieckii.

It was reranked as Cheloniceras (Procheloniceras) by Anderson (1938).

It was assigned to Cheloniceras by Anderson (1938); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cheloniceratinae by Förster and Weier (1983), Landra et al. (2000) and Szives (2007).
