Taxonomy
Pycnodonte (Crenostrea) verracruzana was named by Perrilliat (1994). Its type specimen is IGM 6325, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is IMG 2602, Alto Lucero [Tuxpan Fm], which is in a Miocene marine horizon in the Tuxpan Formation of Mexico.
