Saghalinites was named by Wright and Matsumoto (1954) [Sepkoski's age data: K Sant-u K Maes-u Sepkoski's reference number: 971].

It was reranked as Tetragonites (Saghalinites) by Matsumoto (1960).

It was assigned to Tetragonites by Matsumoto (1960); to Tetragonoceratidae by Klinger (1985); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); to Tetragonitinae by Hoffmann (2010); and to Tetragonitidae by Matsumoto (1984), Morozumi (1985), Kennedy and Summesberger (1986), Kennedy (1986), Thomel (1988), Ward and Kennedy (1993), Kennedy (1995), Kennedy and Bilotte (1995), Wright et al.
