Taxonomy
Sphaeroceras was named as a genus. It is not extant. Its type is Ammonites brongniartii. It is the type genus of Sphaeroceratidae.

It was reranked as Ammonites (Sphaeroceras) by Crick (1894).

It was assigned to Ammonites by Crick (1894); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Sphaeroceratidae by Arkell et al. (1957), Besnosov and Mitta (1993), Majidifard (2015).
