Valvalabamina was named by Reiss (1963) [Sepkoski's age data: K Turo T Pale Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno R]. It was considered unknown by Reiss (1963), Loeblich and Tappan (1987).

It was corrected as Gyroidinoides by Loeblich and Tappan (1987), Wienrich (1997), Al Menoufy and Shreif (2021), Missotti (2022).

It was assigned to Alabaminidae by Reiss (1963); to Rotaliidae by Wienrich (1997); to Foraminiferida by Sepkoski (2002); to Chilostomellacea by Al Menoufy and Shreif (2021); and to Cancrisidae by Loeblich and Tappan (1987), Missotti (2022).
