Taxonomy
Tegoceras was named by Hyatt (1903) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi-l K Albi-m]. Its type is Ammonites mosensis. It was considered monophyletic by Robert et al. (2009).

It was assigned to Eulophoceratidae by Hyatt (1903); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Lyelliceratinae by Spath (1930), Kennedy and Klinger (2008), Robert et al. (2009).
