Taxonomy

Thomasites was named by Pervinquiére (1907) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno-u K Turo-l Sepkoski's reference number: 716].

It was assigned to Pseudotissotiinae by Kennedy et al. (1987); to Vascoceratidae by Reyment (1954), Benavides-Caceres (1956) and Zaborski (1987); to Vascoceratinae by Meister (1989); to Pseudotissotinae by Kennedy and Simmons (1991), Meister et al. (1992) and Meister et al. (1994); to Pseudotissotiinae by Chancellor et al. (1994); and to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002).

Synonyms

Gombeoceras was named by Reyment (1954). Its type is Vascoceras gongilensis.

It was synonymized subjectively with Thomasites by Kennedy et al. (1987), Meister (1989) and Chancellor et al. (1994).

It was assigned to Vascoceratidae by Reyment (1954).
