Taxonomy
Navicula aspersa was named by Conrad (1854). Its type specimen is USNM 353949, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was corrected as Navicula aspera by Conrad (1856); it was recombined as Barbatia (Acar) aspera by Harris and Palmer (1946).
