Taxonomy
Pseudofaunus chiraensis was named by Olsson (1931). Its type locality is 3-4 miles north of Casa Saman, Chira Valley, which is in a Priabonian marine shale/ash in the Chira Formation of Peru.
It was recombined as Faunus (Pseudofaunus) chiraensis by Clark and Durham (1946).
