Pseudobelus was named by de Blainville (1827) [Sepkoski's age data: K Vala K Haut Sepkoski's reference number: 309].

It was reranked as Belemnites (Pseudobelus) by Calzada (1985).

It was assigned to Belemnites by Calzada (1985); to Belemnitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Duvaliidae by Janssen and Főzy (2004).
