Parasuchus hislopi
Taxonomy
Parasuchus hislopi was named by Lydekker (1885) [Lydekker named Parasuchus hislopi for a series of fragmentary cranial and postcranial elements that included a partial rhynchosaurian braincase mixed with phytosaur bones, scutes and teeth. Chatterjee (1974: Philosophical Trans Roy Soc London B 267: 209-261) designated GSI H20/11, a partial premaxillary rostrum as lectotype. Subsequently, Chatterjee (2001: Bull Zool Nomenclature 58:34-36) successfully petitioned the ICZN to make ISIR 42 the neotype of Parasuchus hislopi]. Its type specimen is ISIR 42, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Mutapurum village, which is in a Carnian/Norian terrestrial claystone in the Maleri Formation of India.
It was recombined as Paleorhinus hislopi by Hunt and Lucas (1991); it was considered a nomen dubium by Long and Murry (1995).
