Platystrophia jaaniensis was named by Rubel (1963) [Old holotype number = Br 2900.]. Its type specimen is GIT, No. 128-1 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Neoplatystrophia jaaniensis by Zuykov and Harper (2007), Rubel (2011).
