Taxonomy
Clinopistha was named by Meek and Worthen (1870) [m. kosnik taxon no: 9445 Sepkoski's age data: D Gedi P Sakm]. Its type is Clinopistha radiata levis. It is the type genus of Clinopisthidae.

It was assigned to Solenomyidae by Hoare (1961); to Ctenodontidae by Vokes (1980); to Nuculoida by Sepkoski (2002); to Clinopisthidae by Bouchet et al. (2010); and to Clinopisthinae by Bailey (2021).
