Taxonomy
Similodonta was named by Soot-Ryen (1964). Its type is Tellinomya similis.

It was assigned to Nuculoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Praenuculidae by Cox et al. (1969), Toni (1975), Vokes (1980) and Fang (2006).
