Taxonomy
Synapta eocoena was named by Schlumberger (1888). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is the type species of Synaptites, Synaptellus.
It was corrected as Synapta eocena by Schlumberger (1890); it was recombined as Synaptellus eocoenus by Deflandre-Rigaud (1962); it was recombined as Synaptites eocenus by Deflandre-Rigaud (1949), Deflandre-Rigaud (1952) and Frizzell and Exline (1966).
