Taxonomy
Achistrum brevis was named by Gutschick (1959). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is Holotype USNM 137013, paratypes USNM 137014, 137015, 137016 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Meadel Ditch Quarry, which is in a Kinderhookian offshore mudstone/limestone in the Rockford Limestone Formation of Indiana.
