Taxonomy
Clavilithes burtti was named by Hanna and Israelsky (1925). Its type specimen is CAS 1720, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CAS Loc. 850, Quebrada Mancora [Negritos Fm], which is in an Eocene marine horizon in the Negritos Formation of Peru.
