Cythara chariessa was named by Gardner (1938). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS Loc. 2213 - Baileys Ferry, which is in a Burdigalian marine marl/sandstone in the Chipola Formation of Florida.
It was recombined as Cytharella chariessa by Woodring (1970).
