Taxonomy
Modiolarca was named by Gray (1843) [Sepkoski's age data: T Plio R Sepkoski's reference number: 1112]. It is extant. Its type is Mytilus impactus.

It was replaced with Gaimardia by Hedley (1916).

It was assigned to Mytiloida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Musculinae by Spencer et al. (2004).
