Wellesaurus peabodyi
Taxonomy
Parotosaurus peabodyi was named by Welles and Cosgriff (1965). Its type specimen is UCMP 36058, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Meteor Crater Quarry, main bonebed, which is in a Spathian lacustrine sandstone/mudstone in the Moenkopi Formation of Arizona. It is the type species of Wellesaurus.
It was synonymized subjectively with Stanocephalosaurus birdi by Schoch and Milner (2000); it was recombined as Wellesaurus peabodyi by Lehman (1971), Damiani (2001).
