Hyalopecten was named by Verrill (1897) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l R]. It is extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Ciclopecten by Coan et al. (2000).

It was assigned to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002); to Pectininae by Spencer et al. (2004); and to Camptonectinae by Kamenev (2018), Marshall et al. (2025).

G. M. Kamenev 2018Shell up to 40 mm in height, oblique, thin, fragile, subequilateral, compressed to inflated, inequivalve, with left valve more convex than right. Valves with commarginal undulations or regular, lamellate ribs and radial ribs or riblets. Auricles unequal, posterior auricles often continuous with disc; anterior auricles distinct. Byssal notch rather deep; ctenolium present.
