Taxonomy

Pterinea was named by Goldfuss (1832) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara-u D Eife-l]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Pelecypoda by Bailey (1983); to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pterineidae by Pojeta (1971), Vokes (1980) and Bouchet et al. (2010).
