Taxonomy
Pteroperna was named by Lycett (1850) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori J Tith Sepkoski's reference number: 93,94]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Pteria (Pteroperna) by Ros-Franch et al. (2014).

It was assigned to Pteriidae by Vokes (1980); to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pteria by Ros-Franch et al. (2014).
