Stefaninia was named by Cox (1969) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Ladi]. It is not extant. Its type is Gervilleia ogilviae.
It was assigned to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pteriidae by Ros-Franch et al. (2014).
