Taxonomy
Ichthyosaurus janiceps was named by McGowan (1996). It is not extant. Its type locality is Williston Lake, which is in a Norian marine horizon in Canada.
It was recombined as Macgowania janiceps by Motani (1999), McGowan and Motani (2003), Maisch (2010), Fischer et al. (2013) and Ji et al. (2016).
