Taxonomy
Vnigripecten was named by Muromtseva (1984) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon P Guad-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1227]. Its type is Aviculopecten phosphaticus.

It was assigned to Etheripectinidae by Newell and Boyd (1995); to Etheripectinini by Waterhouse (2001); and to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002).
