Simbirskiasaurus birjukovi
Taxonomy
Simbirskiasaurus birjukovi was named by Otschev and Efimov (1985) [Storrs, Arkhangelsky & Efimov (2000: table 11.2) incorrectly cited ‘SGU 104a/22’ as the holotype specimen]. Its type specimen is YKM 65119, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Right bank of the Volga River, 25 km upstream from Ul'yanovsk, which is in a Barremian marine horizon in the Simbirskites Clay Formation of the Russian Federation.
It was recombined as Platypterygius birjukovi by Storrs et al. (2000), Maisch and Matzke (2000) and Maisch (2010); it was considered a nomen dubium by McGowan and Motani (2003).
